The Curriculum Transition Overview Table provides access to the current approved NWT curriculum, the Draft NWT Adapted Curriculum, and the BC high school curriculum. The table will be updated each year as we continue to adapt the curriculum through the trialling, implementation, and finalization phases.

Curriculum documents are banded together in one document, which means that selecting a single grade in a subject will bring you a document with multiple grades (1-3, 4-6, or 7-9). The Draft NWT Adapted Curriculum documents have been organized in this manner to better support educators, particularly those teaching in multi-age classrooms, so they can see the difference in learning progressions in each grade.

The adaptation process involves different grades going through phases of trialling, implementation, and finalization. Consequently, the table below will change to reflect the state of these phases each year.

Legend

As the implementation and trialling of the Draft NWT Adapted Curriculum progresses, a colour legend will be used in the table above. The colours of each curricula will change to represent the stages of the adaptation process that they are in.

Terminology

Current Curriculum: The current Approved NWT curriculum. All currently approved NWT curriculum documents can also be found on the ECE JK-12 School Curriculum | Education, Culture and Employment webpage.
New to NWT: ADST and Career Education are both new curriculum to the NWT and won't be available until their trialling year commences. These will follow the same phases of trialling, implementation, and finalization as with other curriculum. *Northern Studies 11 is also a new curriculum and will be available in 2025/2026.
Trialling Draft: Curricula that have gone through the adaptation process with members of the Department of Education, Culture & Employment (ECE) and working groups made up of NWT teachers. These curricula are being trialled for use.
Implementation Draft: Curricula that have gone through a trialling period and have been revised based on feedback. These curricula are still in draft and are subject to change.
Final: Curricula that have gone through trialling and implementing and are now approved as the final version of the curricula. These curricula are not subject to change.
